In which case use this ADS (average distribution sheet)?
The use of this type of work should be used only in exceptional circumstances.
When it’s impossible to identify each episode in a series because of:
- Different duration of the episodes from one country to another and thus impossible to have a one-to-one relationship and identification of episodes
- Different number of episodes (goes together with the duration mentioned here above) from one country to another
Conditions when registering an ADS in IDA
- The average distribution sheet could be used only when all the rights owners are represented by the registering society(ies). Basically, one could say that only societies representing scriptwriters/directors could easily use this type of work.
- All the rights owners of the whole season or series must be known and a specific contract (internally handled by each society) must exist with the authors
- An ongoing series cannot be registered as using the average distribution. The series has to be complete.
- The mandatory fields are the same as for a normal work in IDA
- Before registering an average distribution sheet, the original master and all the original episodes must be declared in IDA
- The average distribution sheet must be linked to the original master (BR=business rule).
- The ADS will have a specific flag FL_ADS.
Description of ADS
As mentioned in the working papers on ADS (validated in CT DLV), a user should be able to register an ADS either for a whole series OR for a season/seasons.
Best practice: If a master contains episodes with season information, then the ADS should be per season (avoiding ADS covering several seasons)
Illustration: one or several ADS are linked to the Master, using the episode links:

Business Rules:
- Keep the rules for unitary works: at least one rights owner, at least one ORP, at least one Director.
- The FL_ADS is mandatory
- The ADS must have a link to a VALID Master – that has at least one registered episode linked to itself.
Particularities:
- Production year: First year of production per season if ADS/season (or if by series the first year of the series)
- Duration: Average duration (to keep data structure same as for unitary works)
